What is it?

Suspicious Transaction Reporting is a process of reporting activities that are potentially indicative of criminal activity or terrorism to the appropriate authorities for further investigation. A Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) is filed by a financial institution or a concerned citizen to the local Financial Intelligence Unit if they have reasonable grounds to believe that a transaction is related to criminal activity. The report is required under laws designed to counter money laundering, financing of terrorism and other financial crimes.
